For those who practice good online security habits it’s likely that you’ve either heard of LastPass or you’re already using it (or another password manager like 1Password). Today, LastPass has announced a new family-focused service to sit alongside their personal and enterprise focused offerings.
According to a blog post on the company’s website, “LastPass Families” is a new feature from LastPass designed to make that a little easier, by safely storing crucial information like passwords, bank account information, or passport numbers.
Users can then share them with family members as you need to. Families users will be able to quickly add or remove members to the account, as well as decide which passwords get shared with which users — so you can give your kids the cable login without also handing over your credit card information.
As with LastPass’ existing offerings, this will be a paid subscription service. The details of the cost/payment options are not yet available, but LastPass has historically offered its services at wallet-friendly price points.
The plan is limited to 6 people, to begin with, and whoever purchases the account will be the default administrator, although others can also be granted those permissions. LastPass Families will be available to all later in the summer, but early access is being offered right now for some.
If you don’t already have a LastPass account you can first sign up and then opt in. Current Premium subscribers will be able to try Families at no cost for 6 months, so there’s no harm in giving it a try if that applies to you.
