Videotron Axes Early Cancellation Fees for Unlimited Music Customers

Today marks the end of Videotron’s Unlimited Music service, after a CRTC ruled out the practice of differential pricing, which allowed providers to pick and choose which data streams to charge for.

Videotron last month started giving their customers affected by the end of the music service extra data at no charge, and now it appears they are also allowing customers to end their contracts without any early termination fees.

According to one RFD user, the letter Videotron sent out to customers includes a line that reads “For more information, or to modify or cancel your subscription at not cost, contact us within 30 days following the cancellation of our Unlimited Music Service.” A Videotron rep confirmed he could get out of his contract and not pay over $800 in early termination fees.

This means someone looking to exit out of a contract early can do so and not pay their remaining hardware subsidies, allowing them to upgrade to another device early, switch to BYOD or port to another carrier.

Let us know if you’re going to try this and if you’re hearing the same from Videotron, if you were on the Unlimited Music plan.

I’m with Vidéotron. If this is true, I need to know!

It’s true if you had the unlimited music in your plan, in which case you have received the letter shown in the article. People concerned have until September 4th to cancel their “contract” and keep their phone free of charge. I just got a friend of mine to do it, he had gotten a iPhone 6S in March so he was just a few months in his “contract”, very beneficial for him. By terminating the subsidized phone contract, you are allowed to stay with Videotron. Say you want to cancel the contract, not the line nor the account, just be sure to specify because they were ready to close his whole account when I had called with him.

So last night I called Vidéotron and told them I wanted to cancel my subsidy but retain my phone number and plan. They cancelled my line. I had to call them today to tell them I did not want to cancel my line and they told me I had to go to the store in person. At the store, the rep calls her support line and restarts my phone, got my line reconnected but tells me they can’t do anything until tomorrow when their system updates overnight.

I had specified in my initial message to clearly specify to them that you want to keep your number and line with them, they were about to do the same to my friend until I clearly said I simply wanted the subsidized phone contract to end without cutting the line.

No shit Sherlock. I was crystal clear with them and they did it anyway. You can’t be clearer than “I want to keep using my phone with the same phone number and don’t want to change my plan”.

Yeah, only because I hung up thinking wtf. I’m gonna try again but request changing my plan. At least that way they won’t cancel anything and know it’s a switch
