SaskTel Launches smartHOME Services, Brings Next Level Home Security and Automation
Regional wireless carrier SaskTel has launched a new service for people who are looking to connect their homes to the internet.
The new service, called “smartHOME”, allows customers to fully digitize their homes’ security and automation features. Customers will be able to monitor and control temperature, turn on and off lights, monitor security cameras, and receive security alerts.
All of the features are available from the smartHOME app. In a statement, SaskTel’s interim president and CEO Doug Burnett said:
“We understand that our customers want to be connected to what matters most to them and with smartHOME, our customers can now connect directly to one of the most important pieces of their life, their home.”
SaskTel said that their smartHOME service is available on a four-year subscription, which starts at $35 per month for the first year. After the first year, the monthly fee will increase to $45 per month. The service will come in three varieties:
- Security Secure costs $35 per month for the first 12 months, and $45 per month afterwards.
- Smarthome Detect costs $45 per month for the first 12 months and costs $55 per month afterwards
- Smarthome Automate costs $55 per month for the first 12 months and costs $65 per month afterwards.
Each subscription plan will come with its own digital control panel, one motion sensor, three window/door contacts, and one connected smoke detector. The two more expensive plans comes with additional hardware.
The smartHOME service is currently only available to select residents of Saskatchewan, including Estevan, Martensville, Moose Jaw, Regina, Saskatoon, and Swift Current. The service currently only works with SaskTel’s list of security hardware. Third-party hardware cannot be paired with the system at the current time.
