Apple Announces iPhone 8 Event for Sept. 12 at Steve Jobs Theater

As expected, Apple has just officially announced its fall special event for iPhone 8, set for September 12, 2017. Members of the press began sharing images of their invites, which have a tagline “Let’s meet at our place.” (via The Loop).

The event will take place at 10AM PDT/1PM EDT, as Apple says “Please join us for the first-ever event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino.”

Let s meet at our place september 12

As Jason Snell from Six Colors reports:

(Nerd note: This is the first Apple Event invitation to feature an automated ticket workflow. The invitation email features a click-to-RSVP link that leads to an RSVP page that, in turn, generates an Apple Wallet ticket complete with barcode.)

Apple is expected to release updated iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus models, plus an all-new iPhone 8, said to include face recognition, a new OLED display and lack a Home button. The company is also rumoured to debut Apple Watch models with LTE capabilities, plus a new 4K Apple TV.

Of course, we’ll find out release dates for final versions of iOS 11, watchOS 4, tvOS 11 and macOS 10.13, while probably hear more about HomePod.

#Excited Though I will say, I’m almost afraid to hear how much the Canadian pricing is for the iPhone 8.

Will they let you use your points if you’re buying outright? I thought I read a while back that you could only use it towards a new or renewal 2 year contract, though I could be wrong. I have about $350 built up on my card.

You can use it for an outright purchase! You can use them for any Rogers store or TSC purchases! I used $1300 last year to buy my wife’s iPhone 7 Plus outright! You purchase the phone on the card and use the pay with rewards app to apply the points to the purchase! Just in case we didn’t open the phone until the points were applied and eventual on my card was a $1300 credit. ????

Oh cool, thanks!! The $350 added to what I’ll get selling my 7+ should be a decent chunk towards the new phone.

Unfortunately for me, I don’t think my 5s will fetch much!

been doing the same but I don’t even think I’m going to buy it with this card. my Visa gives me a second year of warranty and I don’t think the Rogers one gives me any warranty…

I find with Apple products that problems don’t show up, if at all, until year five. It might be worth it to use the Rogers card. Having said that, you could use the points at The Shopping Channel and get an Apple Watch or iPad! You pay a little more but the points make it worth it!

I think I’ll just pay my bill with the cashback. Was in Europe all winter and you get 4% cashback so I got some money, used it to pay Rogers bills

Still on the fence about this one. It’s going to take some pretty fantastic features to warrant the cost at this point. I’m still using a 6S and still find it to be quite quick and have no real complaints. Plus I still use my headphones to listen to music everyday. I still dont’ think I can switch to a phone without a headphone jack.

I used my wife’s 7 headphone adapter with my 5s headphones on my phone (didn’t want to forget to give her the adapter back) it’s not a big deal at all.

Does it add much bulk when carrying in your pocket? especially while exercising/jogging? I have a few different sets of headphones in a few different places as well, which would mean remembering to carry the dongle everywhere or buying several of them.

Honestly it’s only two inches long and it’s as narrow as possible. I used it working out at the gym and had no problems. The biggest problem is the wire in general…. I might need to go wireless ????

Personally, I find the lack of a headphone jack incredibly annoying and I’ve had the 7+ since it was released; I’ve never gotten used to it. For anyone like yourself and me, who listens to music on their phone regularly, the lack of a headphone jack really is something to consider. It wasn’t enough to dissuade me from getting the phone, but it still is an annoyance.

The dongle you need to use makes putting your phone in your pocket something you have to think about rather than something you just do. The dongle, like most Apple cables, is incredibly thin and I fear putting it in my pocket with any pressure from the phone would wear it out in fairly short order. I always make sure it goes in without any stretching or pressure if you know what I mean.

I ended up going wireless to avoid the hassle. I bought Beats X which are pretty good; not the normal bass heavy Beats. The convenience of no wires is great, but it’s a PITA when the battery dies and you can’t listen to music at all. I still much prefer my regular wired headphones and still use them when travelling where I don’t need to carry my phone in my pocket.

The lack of home button freaks me out. Imagine how many accidental ‘likes’ or ‘shares’ will happen when someone is just trying to tap their screen to exit the Facebook app or Safari.
