Freedom Mobile’s $40/6GB, $50/8GB Promo Returns, “Final 4 Days”

No, this isn’t #fakenews, but Freedom Mobile has yet again brought back their promo $40/6GB and $50/8GB plans, as part of their “Big Gig Event”, but this time, according to the carrier, is the “final 4 days”.

The company has had this ongoing weekend promo every weekend for almost a month now, with each time saying it’s always a limited time only event. When will it actually end?

Both plans feature unlimited Canada-wide calling and global text, with the $40 plan getting 6GB of data, while the $50 plan has 8GB of data, plus also includes Freedom’s Away Network (Canada/USA), which includes 1GB of data, 2400 minutes of talk and global text.

Freedom is betting on Apple’s newest iPhones to support their Band 66 LTE network, otherwise there’s no point switching if they can’t support the popular smartphone.

Earlier this week, Freedom launched free 90 day LTE trials to select 3G customers in Ottawa, Peterborough and Kingston.

Thanks tipster!

Despite my criticism I’m so tempted to switch. I might just ditch my iPhone 7 for the Note 8 which is supported by FM.

I do believe though this promo will be back within a month or so to lure iPhone 7S and 8 customers. I’m rather confident both models will support the new LTE AWS 66.

freedom or wind, don’t care how cheap their plans are, stay away from them. they have terrible receptions in Vancouver that it takes at least 2 minutes to load an Instagram page.

That’s because you’re using 3G. Reception is spotty but text messages will go through.

I can’t speak for Vancouver but my experience in Alberta has been quite good. I’m using an iPhone 5s and only get 3g reception. Instagram loads quickly and I don’t really notice that much difference between my home wifi and Freedom’s 3g service. I am planning on purchasing an iPhone 8…hopefully, it will support all three of the current and upcoming LTE bands to be used by Freedom.

Hmm. You must have very slow Internet at home. if you’re lucky you’ll get 7 Mbps on 3G.

I’m not sure what qualifies as slow home Internet these days. I have a 30mbps connection from Telus home and get 10mbps on Freedom. It seems to be able to handle anything I throw at it.

As for LTE, I’m not sure how quickly Apple adopts new radios. As long as they support Band 66 with the phones announced on Tuesday. They other two bands that Freedom recently acquired from Videotron are currently supported by most current, in market phones including many iphone models and maybe even the Note 8!

I stand corrected. I did some digging and FM LTE speeds are simply atrocious in most areas. Users are saying these issues are not congested related but tower related.

As such I don’t think it’s wise to switch to FM regardless of their offerings. Howard Forums is a valuable resource to keep current on these issues.

The worst phone company in the country. I’ve tried them out on two occasions, and the service was atrocious both times.
