How Apple Watch LTE Setup Works in iOS 11; New ‘Blush Gold’, ‘Ceramic Grey’ Colours

With iOS 11 GM out of the bag, surprises many expected at Apple’s special event next Tuesday have been revealed, such as the name of iPhone X for the OLED model. Now, we have some more hints about what to expect with Apple Watch Series 3, which will be available with LTE and also come in new colours.

According to 9to5Mac, the cellular version of Apple Watch Series 3 will have an automatic setup which will detect your existing cellphone plan as part of the initial configuration:

There are also strings that indicate some carriers will be offering special promotional plans for the LTE Apple Watch, which likely means the monthly cost of adding the device will be dramatically lowered for a certain period of time.

iOS 11 GM code hints there may be promotions to push cellular Apple Watch service, such as offering free trials to give customers a taste of what it would be like to have an iPhone-free smartwatch.

Apple Watch LTE models sold at carriers will reportedly have a ‘preinstalled’ carrier plan, meaning the devices can be setup from the carrier it was purchased from. There is uncertainty as to whether Apple Watch LTE models would be sold locked or unlocked, but it would be pretty inconvenient if it was the former.

The code says users will be able to add and remove cellular plans from a particular Apple Watch, but that will not cancel their subscription, as the latter can only be done by carriers.

Users with an Apple Watch LTE will see the device connect to carrier bands automatically, while users will make and receive calls using their existing phone number.

Meanwhile, iOS 11 GM code also hints at new colours coming for Apple Watch Series 3, with references to ‘blush gold’ for aluminum models, and a new ‘ceramic grey’ for Apple Watch Edition, reports 9to5Mac.
