Netflix for iOS Now Supports HDR Video and iOS 11

Netflix has updated their iOS app to support high dynamic range (HDR) video, plus also iOS 11. To stream HDR video, you will require a Premium Netflix plan. HDR video allows for more vivid colours, brighter whites, darker blacks and more details.

The following Apple devices support HDR video:

  • 2017 10.5-inch iPad Pro
  • 2017 12.9-inch iPad Pro
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • Apple TV 4K
2017 iPad Pro models gained wide colour P3 displays and ProMotion, offering a 120MHz refresh rate. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus gain True Tone support for their LCD displays. The iPhone X OLED display supports True Tone as well, with its 458ppi and its 2436 x 1125 resolution. Apple TV 4K with HDR support was announced at Apple’s iPhone event, however YouTube 4K will not be supported.
Last spring, Netflix had announced it would be adding over 150 hours of HDR content by the end of 2016. Most of the streaming service’s original series support HDR.
