iPhone X vs iPhone 8 Plus vs Galaxy Note 8 vs OnePlus 5 Battery Life Test [VIDEO]

YouTube channel Mrwhosetheboss recently shared a video testing the battery life on iPhone X, against the iPhone 8 Plus, OnePlus 5 and Galaxy Note 8, showing battery percentages during the drain test.

The iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus had Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on, but TrueTone off as they headed into battle against their Android counterparts. Brightness was kept about the same for all devices, indicated at about 90-95% brightness or so.

The battery life test consisted of opening up various benchmark apps like AnTuTu (1 hour!) and Geekbench, plus opening apps like Instagram, various games, maps, camera and more.

The iPhone X has a 2716mAh battery, slightly larger than the 2691mAh battery in the iPhone 8 Plus. The OnePlus 5 has a 3300mAh battery, just like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

But when it comes to display resolution, the iPhone 8 Plus and OnePlus 5 are pushing 1920×1080 pixels, the iPhone X powers 2436×1125, while the Galaxy Note 8 resolution is at 2960×1440. The iPhone 8 Plus and OnePlus 5 get a slight advantage over the other two devices, since they are powering a lower resolution display.

The start of the test saw the iPhone X battery indicator read 100% for 20 minutes, whereas the other percentages on the other devices dipped.

At the end of the day, here are the results:

  • 1st: OnePlus 5 – 5 hours, 15 minutes
  • 2nd: iPhone X – 5 hours, 2 minutes
  • 3rd: Note 8 – 4 hours, 35 minutes
  • 4th: iPhone 8 Plus – 4 hours, 26 minutes
Apple says the iPhone X has up to two hours more battery life compared to iPhone 8, and the tests did indeed show longer battery life, at about 30 minutes. The iPhone X just barely lost out to the OnePlus 5 and its 18% larger battery and lower resolution display by 13 minutes. Not bad.
Again, this was a casual, unscientific test of how these devices and their batteries fared under extreme testing conditions, as real-life usage would not see a user pounding their device with a one hour benchmark test.
How’s your iPhone X battery life so far?
