Uber to Donate $1 to MADD Canada for Every Driver “Compliment” Sent by Riders

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) and Uber Canada have announced a new holiday season awareness and fundraising campaign to fight impaired driving.

Uber Canada and MADD have a holiday goal of raising up to $100,000 to end impaired driving. This new program will run for the month of December, seeing Uber Canada donate $1 every time a rider sends a “Compliment” badge to drivers within the latter’s mobile apps.

“We’re excited to give our riders the opportunity to show their appreciation to drivers and help stop impaired driving by supporting MADD Canada,” said Adam Blinick, Director of Public Policy and Communications for Uber Canada, in a statement. “As the official designated driving app of MADD Canada, we’re committed to fighting impaired driving and helping Canadians make smart transportation decisions as they celebrate the holiday season.”

“This PSA shows the profound impacts that choosing to drive impaired can have on the ones we care about,” said MADD Canada Chief Executive Officer Andrew Murie. “Having safe, convenient and accessible transportation options is critical, which is why we are so excited to partner with Uber to help reinforce this important message.”

According to MADD, Canada leads all nations “with more than a third of road fatalities involving alcohol impairment,” with crashes linked to drugs and/or alcohol the leading criminal cause of death in the country.

Earlier this year, MADD Canada and Uber announced a long term, national partnership to promote safe and sober driving in the country.
