Bought iPhone X on Launch Day? Just a Couple Days Left to Buy AppleCare

Iphone X applecare

As pointed out by a Reddit user, if you bought Apple’s iPhone X on launch day, you only have today and tomorrow to purchase AppleCare+, which costs $249 CAD and lets you extend your 1 year warranty to two years and reduces prices of accidental damage for two incidents.

If you want to check AppleCare+ eligibility for your iPhone X, you can visit Apple’s “Check Your Service and Support Coverage” website at this link and enter your device’s serial number. This will let you review your existing Apple warranty status, as well eligibility to purchase additional AppleCare coverage.

For reference, you can check out the hefty repair costs for your iPhone X at this link. Is it worth it to pay an extra $249 CAD to protect your iPhone X investment? That’s up to you and how careful you are with your device. You may also want to check your credit card provider too, as most provide an additional year of warranty on purchases.

Strangely, I’m eligible, but I get an error when clicking on the buy link:

“This link has expired. Please check your coverage to begin purchasing AppleCare products.”

Where are you getting those numbers from? Apple’s website shows $359 for screen out of warranty and $39 for screen with AppleCare+ ($250). Out of warranty for other damages are $709 and $129 with AppleCare+. You get 2 damage instances. Also – don’t forget you’ll get unlimited accessory replacements for free for that extra year. My cables always get destroyed.

No need to buy the overrated Apple Care. I have BMO World Elite MasterCard which offers one extra year extended warranty.

I have the same card but with RBC…
Not too worried for the warranty with this card… but what about accidental damage? What’s your opinion on this?

And I wonder how reliable it is, to be honest.

Like, does Apple honour it even if the warranty wasn’t purchased with them?

You pay the fee through Apple, show the receipt to your card company and they will reimburse you via cheque.

I doubt it covers accidental damage.

This only applies to the manufactures warranty. It extends it a year. Doesn’t cover accidental damage like dropping your phone.

Most credit cards will cover accidental damage for the first 90 days… so a least you get that

So is it only in the States where you can buy AppleCare up to a year after the purchase?

It’s usually 60 days after purchase date.

You’re mostly buying peace of mind with extended warranty schemes. These programs are profitable because most people don’t need to use them or will use them rarely during their lifetime relationship with a company. Unless you’re the most accident prone person on earth, If you just took the money you’d use for an extended warranty each time and put it in an emergency fund savings account, you’ll come out far ahead and be earning interest. And as others have alluded to there a credit cards that double your warranty for next to nothing. This probably won’t cover accidental drops, but other issues, yes. I’ve used it with capital one and it was hassle free.
