New Regulatory Filing Suggests Apple Readying Two New iPads: REPORT

A recent filing by Apple with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) suggests the company is getting close to releasing two new iPads.

A new report from Apple Insider explains that uncovered filings for two new tablets from Apple with the Eurasian Economic Commission indicate that an iPad refresh is coming sooner rather than later. The entries represent model identifiers A1954 and A1893, which are described as Apple tablets running iOS 11.

The filing has been made with the EEC, which oversees Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. It was made to obtain permission from the regulatory body to sell the two new iPads in the aforementioned countries.

Other than model numbers, there are no other clues about the tablets. Recent rumours have suggested Apple would wait until this fall to release new iPad Pro models.

They could also mean that these new devices are just a minor update of the current models. Ever since the iPhone X was released, there have been rumours about the iPad getting a similar treatment: small bezels, no home button, the notch. But this particular device is expected later this year; that said, none of this is official information, and anything is possible.

However, the timing of this filing suggests two new iPads are nearly ready for release, most likely in March. Apple had traditionally updated the iPad lineup in March, with last year’s announcement being a more affordable iPad.
