During Fitbit’s latest earnings call yesterday, CEO James Park said that the company is working on a “mass appeal smartwatch” following disappointing sales of the Fitbit Ionic.

Tech website Wareable has obtained what look like very convincing leaked images of what could be that watch, and a report on what the watch’s features will be.
The images show a square face with a seemingly metal frame and a look that’s closer to an Apple Watch than any of Fitbit’s previous wearables.
A source apparently familiar with Fitbit’s plans told Wareable that “it wants this to be something that will appeal to a larger, more general smartwatch audience,” and that specifically Fitbit wants a watch that appeals more to the female market.

The new Fitbit is supposedly waterproof to 50 meters, runs the same Fitbit OS software as the Ionic, and like the Ionic has a relative SpO2 sensor, which can monitor blood oxygen levels and will allow the device to monitor for sleep apnea. One feature it apparently won’t have though is GPS, unfortunately.
This follows the announcement yesterday of Fitbit’s Adidas-branded edition of the Ionic watch, priced at $330 USD. It’s being positioned as a direct competitor to Apple Watch’s Nike edition, which starts at $329 USD.
There’s no word on when Fitbit’s new watch will be released or how much it will cost, though it will reportedly be cheaper than the Ionic.
