Barclays Analyst Says HomePod Sales are Underwhelming, AirPods Continue to Grow

According to Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis, demand for Apple’s HomePod has been “underwhelming” so far.

The memo did not provide any actual numbers, however, we know that Apple was originally planning a production run of 6 to 7 million units. Apple has not released any HomePod specific sales numbers yet, so it is still really hard to say for sure.

The HomePod has been praised for its sound quality, but it has been criticized for not being very smart when it comes to Siri.

Curtis also noted that Apple is growing its production of AirPods, which are experiencing very strong demand despite their high price tag. Online orders of the wireless headphones are still taking weeks to be delivered to customers in Canad and the United States.

Both devices are supposedly getting updates later this year. The AirPods will reportedly come with a new wireless-chip that allows for tap-free “Hey Siri” commands. The company is also rumoured to be working on a cheaper version of the HomePod.
