After launching for the iOS a few months ago, Epic Games just announced that their smash hit Fortnite will also be heading to the Android soon.
A new blog post from Epic Games explains the upcoming changes to the mobile version of Fortnite. Along with info about the new changes such as a new customizable HUD and voice chat, the developer gave an update about the Android version of the game: Android owners can look forward to playing Fortnite on their phones sometime this summer.
Since the release of Fortnite on iOS back in March, Epic remained relatively mum about the Android release. Fortnite launched proper on iOS devices in early April after an invite-only beta period. On mobile, Fortnite is the same 100 PvP “Battle Royale” game mode from the PC and console versions, with the same map and gameplay.
Releasing Fortnite to a mobile Android audience should see the continuation of this growth, and while Epic Games hasn’t announced a firm release date yet, their same blog post promises that “when we have more information to share, you’ll hear it from us first.”
In addition to announcing Fornite‘s new Android version, Epic Games announced a few new changes and tweaks to the game. Epic is currently bringing voice chat to mobile, for one thing — and that includes talking to friends on other platforms.
It’s also hoping to improve the visual quality and introduce a battery-saving mode that reduces the strain on your device (this could be helpful for older phones, we’d add). The developer also intends to bring stat tracking to mobile players, and is aiming to trim the size of both the game itself and its updates.
In other Fortnite news, analysts estimate that Fortnite mobile earned $25 million USD in its first month on iOS.
