Apple’s iOS 12 Beta 2 References Unreleased Apple Watch Models

Shortly after Apple released the second beta of iOS 12, developers have already stumbled across data strings that point to new Apple Watch models.

The discovery, which was originally made by 9to5Mac’s Guilherme Rambo, includes references to Watch4,1, Watch4,2, Watch4,3 and Watch4,4. The latest generation of Apple Watch devices that have been released publically follow the Watch3,X naming scheme.

This is the first solid evidence we have that a new major hardware revision for the Apple Watch is on the way. Given that WWDC has gone by without any mention of new hardware, it is very likely that we will see these devices as early as September. Of course, this wouldn’t be so surprising as the Apple Watch Series 3 was released at the end of September of last year.

The rumours for the next Apple Watch have been sparse, however, there have been some rumblings that Apple is working on a new design that would feature a larger edge-to-edge display in the same size form factor. Ming-Chi Kuo estimated that the display on the new Apple Watch models could be up to 15 percent larger.

A change in the form factor of the Apple Watch may help to propel device sales even higher than they already are, which is saying a lot because sales are still increasing at a very impressive rate.
