Fido Launches XXL Plans for Hardware Upgrades, Starting at $115/2GB [u]

Fido has launched new Extra Extra Large plans for existing customers looking to perform hardware upgrades, which offer customers a lower upfront cost for the latest smartphones, but a higher monthly plan.

Canada’s Big 3 wireless carriers recently launched new higher monthly plans with larger upfront subsidies, to accommodate for the higher price of smartphones such as Apple’s iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

According to documents seen by iPhone in Canada, Fido is following in the footsteps of its parent company Rogers, by debuting new Extra Extra Large plans. These plans start at $115 per month with 2GB data + current 2GB bonus (they start at $90 in Manitoba) and will offer the following lower upfront prices for Apple’s latest iPhones:

iPhone XS

  • 64GB – $429
  • 256GB – $629
  • 512GB – $889

iPhone XS Max

  • 64GB – $559
  • 256GB – $759
  • 512GB – $1019

These upfront prices essentially match what other carriers are offering for iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max at the maximum upfront subsidies.

Fido’s documentation states these XXL plans are only available for existing customers and according to the company, there are no plans to expand further. A Fido spokesperson told iPhone in Canada the following statement, ““Our new XXL tier is available to existing Fido customers starting today. The XXL tier offers customers more choice and flexibility so they can get the iconic devices they want for a lower upfront cost.”
