Amazon Expands Toronto Tech Hub with New 113,000 Sq. Ft. Office and 600 Jobs
More expansion news from Amazon Canada today, as the company has announced its Toronto Tech Hub is set to grow with a new 113,000 square foot office in Scotia Plaza in downtown Toronto.
The new office means 600 tech jobs, in the fields of software development, machine learning, cloud computing, digital advertising, and artificial intelligence, explains Amazon.
Currently, there are over 800 corporate employees in Toronto, working on research and software development for customer fulfillment technology, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Alexa, as well as business development for Amazon Advertising and AWS.
“Amazon is excited to create hundreds of new highly-skilled jobs in Toronto,” said Tamir Bar-Haim, Amazon’s Toronto Site Lead and Head of Amazon Advertising in Canada, in a press release. “Toronto has a well-educated and diverse workforce, and there’s a real culture of innovation here. We look forward to continuing to invent for our customers in Canada and globally, and welcoming top-tier talent to fill exciting roles across Amazon.”
There are 18 Amazon Tech Hubs outside Seattle in North America, with the one in Toronto being one of them. The team in Toronto works on Amazon’s global logistics and operations network, while the AWS team supports customers such as Art Gallery of Ontario, Flynn Group of Companies, The Globe and Mail, Porter Airlines, theScore, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Toronto Star.
Amazon says it now has over 10,000 employees in Canada, while has invested over $3 billion CAD in the country since 2011, with “customer fulfillment and cloud infrastructure, research facilities, and compensation to our employees.”
