Apple Reportedly Secures AirPower Trademark Ahead of Launch Rumours

This morning, we reported Apple’s Australian website included a new hidden image for the company’s long-awaited AirPower wireless charging mat, suggesting a launch is forthcoming.

Now, more evidence appears to suggest an AirPower launch is imminent, as MacRumors has discovered Apple now reportedly owns the ‘AirPower’ trademark.

Apple had been battling Advanced Access Technologies for the ‘AirPower’ name but then suddenly withdrew its opposition. Shortly after, an Apple lawyer was named the attorney of the trademark case, hinting the company won the battle for the name thought outside settlement:

After fighting to prevent the AirPower trademark from being granted to Advanced Access Technologies for several months with multiple different filings with the USPTO, Apple yesterday suddenly withdrew its opposition and the dispute was terminated.

Just after Apple withdrew opposition on Advanced Access Technologies’ trademark of the AirPower name, an Apple lawyer was appointed the attorney of the trademark case, suggesting that Apple purchased rights to the AirPower trademark from Advanced Access Technologies ahead of an imminent AirPower launch that would not give Apple time to secure the trademark through other means.

While Advanced Access Technologies remains the owner of the ‘AirPower’ trademark— longtime Apple lawyer of nearly 20 years–Thomas LaPerle–is now listed on the trademark application. This is pretty strong evidence Apple now owns the trademark.

With this week’s ‘quiet’ product releases via press release, are we set to see AirPower debut on Friday? Or maybe Apple will use stage time from next week’s media event to give AirPower more limelight?
