It looks like the latest Samsung smartphone is just a few weeks away.
Samsung has scheduled an “Unpacked” launch event for August 7 in at the Barclays Center in New York City that’s expected to feature the announcement of the Galaxy Note 10, the latest premium phone in the South Korean giant’s smartphone lineup.
The event, announced late Monday, will “unveil new devices designed to take the Galaxy ecosystem’s connectivity to the next level.” Invitations were sent out to the press without any additional details.
While Samsung didn’t explicitly say so, the headlining device announcement will almost certainly be the Galaxy Note10. The Note always gets announced at the Unpacked event that happens later in the year, and the above image with the S Pen kind of gives it away.
In a short teaser video, we can see the S Pen stylus draw a single camera. That could be a hint at the hole-punch camera that rumours have suggested the Note 10 will have. Rather than being located in the upper right corner of the screen like on the Galaxy S10, though, the Note 10’s front camera is expected to be located in the center of the top of the screen.
Other rumoured features of the Galaxy Note 10 include 6.28- and 6.75-inch screen sizes as well as 4G LTE and 5G versions, which means we could be getting a total of four Note 10 models. That would be a big change from previous Galaxy Note phones, which are typically only available in one model. Rumours have also said that the Note 10 could have a 4500mAh battery, and it’s possible that Samsung could get rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Note 10, which would be another big change from previous Galaxy flagships.
The Note 10 phones are going to be on the expensive side of things, at least at launch, with a recent report claiming that pricing will start at around $1,100 USD for the cheapest 4G version. The Note 10 series will launch in stores by the end of August, and preorders are likely to start right after the announcement event.
The Galaxy Note, when it originally launched, was seen as a groundbreaking “phablet” line. The term phablet has all but disappeared, likely because most flagship phones are massive in size now, but the Galaxy Note survives and is approaching its tenth generation, thanks to a fiercely loyal fanbase. And that’s despite the seventh generation having to be recalled due to exploding batteries.
