Rogers customers in New Brunswick now have access to the company’s IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Ignite TV service, available in both English and French.
The company says Ignite TV is “uniquely designed for New Brunswick customers,” as over 500 local Rogers employees assisted Ignite TV’s voice technology to learn northern and southern Acadian accents.
“We’re excited to bring Ignite TV to our New Brunswick customers in the language of their choice,” said Eric Bruno, SVP – 5G, Content and Connected Home Products, in a press release.
Rogers Ignite TV requires Ignite Internet service and the hardware includes a voice remote to allow for hands-free control of the set top box, including searching for shows by title, actor or actress name.
The Rogers Ignite TV service is powered by the Comcast X1 cloud-based TV platform, which is also similarly being licensed by Shaw’s BlueSky TV service in Western Canada.
Rogers signed a deal for Comcast’s turn-key IPTV solution in 2016, after abandoning its plans to develop an in-house IPTV solution (taking a hefty $484 million write-down in the process).
The launch of Rogers Ignite TV in New Brunswick comes one year after the service launched in Ontario, where the company said it would launch in Atlantic Canada in 2019, making due on its promise.
