Huawei’s Foldable Mate X Finally Going on Sale in China on November 15

Huawei’s highly-anticipated foldable Mate X smartphone is finally going on sale — in China.

Huawei first introduced its Mate X foldable smartphone at Mobile World Congress this year, and then the launch seemed to keep getting postponed. Now, it’s finally coming, at least if you’re in China. According to a new report from Digital Trends, it will be available on November 15 for 16,999 yuan, or around $3,145 CAD.

The device features a Kirin 980 chip, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and 5G connectivity, powered by a 4,500mAh battery. The folding display covers an 8-inch diagonal, or a 6.6-inch one when folded. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, the bendy panel is exposed when the device is folded.

The foldable offering from Huawei will be sold exclusively in China through Huawei’s self-run e-commerce platform from November 15 amid limited initial supplies, according to an announcement on the company’s official Weibo account. The launch is about six months behind the original schedule.



Huawei also announced that it shipped over 200 million smartphones globally in 2019. The company previously hit this target last year, but it’s still a big deal in light of its current smartphone situation. What’s even more impressive though is the fact that it hit the 200 million mark 64 days earlier than in 2018.

Huawei is currently the No. 2 smartphone company globally in terms of shipments, ahead of Apple but behind Samsung.
