Telus Babylon App Seeing ‘Incredible Demand’, Long Wait Times for Remote Healthcare

The Babylon app by Telus Health launched yesterday in Alberta, expanding availability of the remote healthcare solution beyond British Columbia. The service allows an iPhone or Android user to access a doctor via phone, video chat or email, with costs covered by provincial health authorities.

With the outbreak of COVID-19 and many Canadians self-isolating as instructed, Telus Health told users in an email today seen by iPhone in Canada, “this has created an incredible demand for our service and, with it, longer than expected wait times for doctor appointments.”

“We know this presents challenges for you in accessing healthcare, and we thank you for your patience. We are working to get wait times back on track by onboarding additional doctors and clinical staff as fast as we can, so that we can provide quality healthcare and support to all who need it,” added the Babylon by Telus Health Team.

Telus Health shared tips to get the most out of the Babylon app, such as checking into the app often as appointments get cancelled at the last minute, or by cancelling your appointment as soon as possible so time slots can open up for others. The company also says users should ensure the person with the appointment booked is present, while permissions to your smartphone camera and microphone are enabled, before your scheduled appointment (and that you’re logged in prior as well).

“Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we grow with these changing times and, as always, we wish you the best of health,” concluded the Telus Health Team.
