WhatsApp Video/Voice Calls Now Support Up to 8 People on iPhone and Android

Whatsapp group video calls

When Facebook announced Messenger Rooms video calling was coming last week, the company also detailed WhatsApp would soon support video calling for up to 8 people.

Today, WhatsApp for iOS was updated to bring forth this new video calling feature to support up to 8 people, double from the previous number of 4, in version 2.20.50 of the iPhone app.

An update is also available for Android (version 2.20.141) directly from the WhatsApp website; this same update has yet to make its way to Google Play, but should be out shortly.

“Group video and voice calls now support up to 8 participants. All participants need to be on the latest version of WhatsApp,” explains the latest iOS update.

For iOS 13 users, this update also brings “visual improvements”, along with an update message action menu as well.

It’s worth noting, only iPhone and Android users on the latest update will be able to join in for up to 8 video or voice calls. If your friends haven’t updated, they won’t be part of your lucky 8.

Last month, WhatsApp for iOS and Android were both updated to support dark mode.
