Sonos Unveils Arc Soundbar with Dolby Atmos, New Sonos Five and Sonos Sub [u]

Sonos today has announced pre-orders for its newest products, including its first soundbar to support Dolby Atmos, known as the Sonos Arc. Also new today are the Sonos Five speaker and Sonos Sub, plus a new S2 app to support these latest products.

Sonos Arc Premium Soundbar with Dolby Atmos

In what Sonos is calling their “most immersive home theatre experience yet,” the new Arc replaces its other premium Playbar soundbar and Playbase soundbase speaker.

The new Arc supports 3D sound with Dolby Atmos surround and comes with a curved shape that is now longer to match today’s larger televisions (it’s 10 inches longer than the Beam). Sonos says the 270-degree curved plastic grille on Arc is a single sheet molded and drilled with over 76,000 holes.

Arc has 11 Class-D digital amplifiers, to go with 8 elliptical woofers, 3 angled silk-dome tweeters and a four far-field microphone array to support Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Sonos Arc automatically adjusts its sound profile through software, whether you’re listening to stereo, Dolby Atmos or Dolby Digital 5.1.

The soundbar built on the blueprint of the Sonos Beam, Arc offers an “ultra-wide soundstage and impressive bass, delivery dramatic clarity, detail and depth,” according to Sonos.

“Home has never played a more important role in our lives and we’ve always been about making the home more enjoyable with great sounding products and new experiences. Arc brings the sounds of our favorite shows and artists to life like never before,” said Patrick Spence, Sonos CEO, in an issued statement. ” Our goal is to make any room you have a television a place you can easily enjoy all of the great streaming video and music that exists today. Arc illustrates our commitment to brilliant sound and premium design, and sets a new standard for soundbars.”

It can be wall mounted or placed in front of your TV. When wall mounted, Arc automatically adjusts its EQ to temper bass resonance with Trueplay. The Arc is connected to your TV via HDMI eARC or ARC, while the speaker can also be paired with a Sonos Sub or a pair of One SL surrounds.

Update: pre-order Arc and get a free wall mount (worth $89) with it. Add Arc and the wall mount to cart and use code AM-RM36VPGDMR (looks like a one-time use code?) to get the mount for free.

Sonos says Arc brings immersive sounds for movies but also does the same for music listening, while also supports Apple’s AirPlay 2 protocol.

The Sonos Arc is available for pre-order today at $999 in Canada via, with availability on June 10.

Sonos Sub (Gen 3) – Updated Internals

Sonos today also updated its wireless subwoofer, known as the Sonos Sub, now reaching its third-generation. Sub (Gen 3) has the same design as before, but gains internal updates such as more memory and processing power, plus a new wireless radio.

Sub has two force-canceling drivers at the centre of its design facing inward, which eliminates vibration and rattle, so all users hear is pure bass. The Sub can be added and paired with a Sonos Arc, Sonos Beam, Playbar or Playbase, while can also be setup with a pair of Sonos Ones or One SLs.

The design of the Sonos Sub allows it to be placed upright, on its side or tucked under a couch without any loss in bass and sound performance.

Sonos Sub (Gen 3) is available for pre-order today at $899 in Canada on the Sonos website, with availability on June 10.

Sonos Five Speaker – Updated Internals and Now in White

Sonos today also updated its most powerful speaker for music, as the Play:5 (Gen 2) has been replaced by the Sonos Five, which comes with the same design but updated internals. The Sonos Five has increased memory and processing power, plus a new wireless radio, gaining an update like the Sonos Sub.

Sonos Five features three custom-designed woofers and three tweeters, to go with six Class-D digital amplifiers. New for the Sonos Five is the option to have white with a white grille, a first for the Sonos speaker. The Sonos Five can be controlled by your voice when connected to an Amazon Echo or Google Home device and also supports Apple’s AirPlay 2 protocol.

You can pre-order the Sonos Five for $599 in Canada today on, with availability on June 10.

New Sonos S2 App Coming June 8

To power the next generation of Sonos products including Arc, Five and Sub (Gen 3), a new app called S2 will launch on June 8, and exclusively control these latest speakers.

Sonos says the new S2 app will support higher resolution audio technologies such as Dolby Atmos, while have increased security and improved design. It will bring saved room groups for the first time, while also making it easier to search for content and control sound.

According to Sonos, when the new S2 app launches in June, it will seamlessly transfer over your existing system, including all settings, favourites and more.

The Sonos Arc with Dolby Atmos is probably the most exciting update for Sonos customers. At $999 CAD for the Sonos Arc, it’s definitely high-end as it’s the newest Sonos soundbar. We’ll have more news about the Sonos Arc soon, so stay tuned.

Those seeking to nab the older Sonos Playbar, it has been discounted down to $679 on (save $220), the lowest price we’ve seen for this still excellent soundbar.
