Quibi iOS and Android App Now Supports Chromecast to Watch on TV [u]
Mobile streaming service Quibi has updated its iOS app to now support Chromecast to watch on your big screens. The addition of Chromecast comes after AirPlay support was added to the iOS app in late May.
The Quibi iPhone app was updated on Tuesday to add Chromecast support. “Enjoy more ways to share Quibi from your phone to your TV. In addition to AirPlay, you can now use Chromecast to watch Quibi episodes on any compatible device,” explained the app update.
Quibi launched as a mobile-only streaming service, backed by Hollywood shows and also with Canadian content from Bell Media in the form of news and sports. The service has struggled to gain momentum and COVID-19 has been to blame, according to founder Jeffrey Katzenberg.
In Canada, Quibi appears to be losing steam, as late May saw the app ranked #8 in the Entertainment category in the App Store, but now it’s fallen to the #15 spot.
Sure we designed Quibi for on-the-go, but these days visiting the family room is like a day trip… so AirPlay support is live for iOS in Quibi 1.3. Working hard on Chromecast too which will be available in June.

As of writing, the Quibi Android app was also updated on June 9, but no word if Chromecast support was added yet.
The Quibi streaming service costs $6.99 CAD per month in Canada.
Update: Quibi will support Chromecast in the Android app, which is rolling out now and will be available to all users by Friday.
Quibi generally supports Android 7.0.1 or later and all versions of Quibi on both iOS and Android will support Chromecast. The Android app is in the Play Store now and is rolling out to all users this week. It should be to everyone by Friday.
