On Wednesday, numerous high-profile Twitter accounts were hacked to start tweeting out a Bitcoin scam, urging followers to send Bitcoin to an address and have their money doubled.

Accounts hacked include Apple’s official account, alongside other major figures such as Tesla’s Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barack Obama and more. Scam tweets were quickly pinned to gain the most visibility.

Twitter said it was made aware of the situation and said users might not be able to reset their passwords while they investigate.

Crypto accounts from @bitcoin, @ripple, @coindesk, @coinbase and @binance were hacked urging people to visit a scam website, according to TechCrunch, which reports the blockchain address has acquired 12.5 bitcoin worth $116,000, and rising, as of writing.

Update: Twitter has temporarily disabled verified accounts (including @iPhoneinCanada) from tweeting, to isolate this crypto scam.
