SpaceX Starlink Beta Testing Shows Download Speeds in Excess of 100Mbps

Back in July, beta pricing, installation, and more details of Starlink satellite internet, a service from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, was leaked ahead of private and public beta testing, and today, the company has officially confirmed that a private beta of the service is currently underway Tesla North is reporting.

According to SpaceX engineer Kate Tice, the service has demonstrated low latency and download speeds in excess of 100Mbps during its initial beta testing, with more features and greater capabilities to be unlocked over time through software updates.

Tice noted that while the current private beta is essentially limited to SpaceX employees, the public Starlink beta is still on track to kick off later this year.

SpaceX says Starlink Beta “is an opportunity to be an early user of the SpaceX’s satellite internet system. The purpose of Starlink Beta is to gather feedback that will help us make decisions on how best to implement the system for Starlink’s official launch. By design, the beta experience will be imperfect. Our goal is to incorporate feedback from a variety of users to ensure we build the best satellite broadband internet system possible.”

The company is already encouraging people in Canada and the USA to apply for the public beta via its Starlink website.
