6.1-inch iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Expected to Release First

Apple has been heavily rumoured to be releasing four models of the iPhone 12. From a 5.4-inch entry-level device to two 6.1-inch iPhones, all the way to a 6.7-inch premium device. Though, it’s expected that Apple will stagger the release of the new iPhones due to complications or otherwise given this year’s circumstances. However, it may be that the company plans to release both the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro first.

While we still don’t have concrete news on how Apple will handle the release and shipment of the iPhone 12, a new report from Digitimes indicates that the two 6.1-inch devices may come first. It should come to no surprise that development and production have faced a series of bumps throughout 2020. Due to the timing of SLP mainboard shipments, Digitimes expects the middle-tier iPhones to be consumer-ready first.

According to the report, SLP mainboard suppliers have been ramping up production since July and August. Shipments of the SLP mainboards for both the 6.1-inch iPhone and iPhone 12 Pro began in July. However, the shipments for the 5.4-inch iPhone and 6.7-inch device did not begin until the second half of August. Given the timing of shipments, Digitimes believes that it is enough to warrant speculation that the mid-tier devices will release first.

It’s still uncertain when Apple plans to unveil the devices and signal an official release date for the iPhone 12. Recently, Apple leaker Jon Prosser has said he expects the company to issue a press release this week. While he wasn’t able to confirm what the press release would be focused on, his best guess was an announcement for the digital Apple event.
