iPhone 12 Release Date Coming This Week? Not So Fast…

We’re into the first week of September and now we’re apparently ready for Apple announcements, related to iPhone and more, as part of the company’s annual release cycle that happens like clockwork.

This morning, leaker Jon Prosser said his sources tell him an Apple announcement is coming on the morning of Tuesday, September 8:

“Apple press release is currently scheduled for Tuesday (September 8) at 9:00am EST — though, I should note that it’s not locked in until the press has been briefed, day of,” said Prosser on early Sunday morning. “I’ll tweet early that morning to update you if it changes,” he added.

What could be announced via press release by Apple on Tuesday? Rumours point to Apple Watch Series 6 or maybe a refreshed iPad Air.

But one of the OG Apple leakers, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, has cast doubt on Prosser’s claim of a product announcement this week.

“I wouldn’t get too excited about rumors of new Apple products appearing this week. More likely I think: an announcement of the upcoming (of course virtual) September iPhone/Apple Watch event,” said Gurman on Sunday afternoon.

In a nutshell, Gurman says the expected press release on Tuesday will be to announce Apple’s fall iPhone (virtual) event date, and not the products themselves.

Apple already admitted its 2020 iPhone lineup would be delayed by a “few weeks”, due to COVID-19.

Prosser has had his recent hits and misses when it comes to rumours, notably surrounding his WWDC predictions and recent pictures sharing Apple’s “AirPower” wireless charging mat. He did get the recent iMac release date right, though. Gurman is as solid as ever when it comes to sharing Apple leaks.

Nevertheless, let’s wait and find out what happens on Tuesday morning.
