Leaks from Brazil Reveal iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini Battery Capacities

As reported by MacRumors, a leaked regulatory filing from Brazil has revealed that the iPhone 12 has a battery capacity of 2,815mAh, whereas the smaller iPhone 12 mini sports a battery capacity of 2,277mAh.

Both devices are part of the iPhone 12 lineup unveiled by Apple during its October 13 event. Apple has said that users can get up to 15 hours of standard video playback, 10 hours of streaming, or 50 hours of audio playback out of the ‌iPhone 12‌ mini’s battery. Apple rates the ‌battery of the iPhone 12 (and 12 Pro) at up to 17 hours of video playback, 11 hours of streaming, or 65 hours of audio playback.

However, Apple did not give the public any technical information regarding the devices’ battery capacities. The leaked documents, filed with Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency ANATEL for certification, also contained information on the battery capacities of the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, which the source has chosen not to share as of yet.

An older battery certification leak also had the iPhone 12 mini sporting 2,227mAh battery, but stated that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro would come with 2,775mAh batteries, which contradicts these new leaks. With the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro launching October 23, though, we won’t have to wait long to find out which leaks got it right!

The iPhone 12 supposedly features a smaller battery (2,815mAh) than the iPhone 11 (3,110mAh), but still provides better battery life thanks to the efficiency improvements of the A14 Bionic chipset.

The iPhone 12 (starting at $1129 in Canada) is already available for pre-order, whereas the iPhone 12 mini (starting at $979 in Canada) will be available for pre-order globally on November 6 at 5AM PST.
