iPhone 13 Expected to Come in Four SKUs, Pro Models to Feature Ultra-Wide Camera: Kuo

The second half of the iPhone 12 lineup has only just begun its preorder phase, yet Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is already looking ahead at what may come for what may be called the iPhone 13. Kuo believes Apple will once again release four SKUs, though the Pro models will come with a major camera upgrade.

Kuo detailed his expectations in a new TF International Securities research note, seen by MacRumors. According to the outlet’s report, Kuo claims Apple will replicate the lineup of devices the iPhone 12 received. However, although the iPhone 13 will have four models, Kuo expects Apple to give the two high-end devices a significant Ultra-Wide camera upgrade to f/1.8, 6P with autofocus. Currently, all iPhone 12 models feature an f/2.4, 5P Ultra-Wide camera with fixed focus. Kuo has added that the 2022 line of iPhones may also feature the same camera upgrade.

When looking at supply chains, Kuo believes Largan will become a major supplier for voice coil motors for Ultra-Wide cameras. It’s expected that Largan will receive upwards of 70 percent of the orders.

In addition to detailing the Ultra-Wide camera upgrade, Kuo believes that in 2021, Apple will return to its standard schedule of setting mass production and sale of the devices for September. Given that there are not any additional hurdles made by COVID-19, supply chains may feel less pressure to manufacture components for the devices. The next year may also offer a more solid infrastructure for 5G since Apple has begun its transition to the new networking this year with the iPhone 12.
