On the Spike’s Car Radio podcast, comedian and car buff Jay Leno, shared how he was able to test drive the 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid. The upcoming Model S Plaid hit an impressive and record-breaking quarter-mile time at Famoso Raceway, just north of Bakersfield, California (via Tesla North).

“I’ll tell you what I did. I went up to Famosa dragway in Bakersfield…in a Tesla [Model S] Plaid. I made one pass…I drove up and had the NHRA [National Hot Rod Association] guys there to make it official, I turned a 9.247 at 152.09 mph,” Leno said.

According to Tesla’s website, the Model S Plaid can do the 1/4 mile in 9.23 seconds at 155 mph (249 km/h).

To put things into perspective, the previous fastest recorded 1/4 mile time for a production car was the 2018 Bugatti Chiron Sport’s 9.4 seconds at 254.3 km/h (158 mph), which seems to have been beaten by the Model S Plaid.

Moreover, the 2018 Bugatti Chiron Sport costs $2,998,000 USD, while the Model S Plaid starts at $118,490 USD.
