Nintendo Switch OLED Release Date: Oct. 8 in Canada, Pricing at $449 [VIDEO]
The next Nintendo Switch console has finally been announced.
Nintendo has today ended months of speculation and reports, and officially revealed the latest console to join the Switch family: the Nintendo Switch (OLED model).
The new model sports a 7-inch OLED display, a wide adjustable stand, and a dock with a wired LAN port. You’ll also be pleased to hear Nintendo increased the internal storage to 64GB and is promising enhanced audio through the onboard speakers.
As this is the standard Switch model it will continue to offer detachable Joy-Cons and support the three play modes: TV Mode, Tabletop Mode, and Handheld Mode.
The OLED Switch will be compatible with the same games and Joy-Con controllers as the original model. The October 8 launch lines up with the release date for Metroid: Dread, one of Nintendo’s biggest games for the rest of the year.
The new Switch will come in the traditional Switch red and blue colours along with a new white model.
The announcement follows speculation regarding an upgraded Switch console that emerged last month. Initial reports suggested that the console could launch as early as September this year, with an announcement expected during this year’s E3 event.
This is the newest Switch model since 2019’s Nintendo Switch Lite, which launched with much fanfare at $199 USD. The hybrid console platform has absolutely dominated the handheld and console gaming spaces, with reported lifetime sales of 84.59 million units — a number we expect to steadily increase when the OLED model no doubt flies off of retail shelves on October 8 in Canada for $449.99 CAD.
