Bell and Virgin Mobile Price Increase: Connection Fees Hit $50
Back in October 2020, Bell and Virgin Mobile increased its one-time Connection Service Fee to $45, up from $40. The fee is applied when a customer activates a device on the company’s wireless network.
Fast forward to July 2021, and Bell and Virgin Mobile have increased the fee again, nine months later. Bell’s website now lists its Connection Service Fee as $50, an 11% increase from before.
“A one-time Connection Service Fee ($50) is applied on your first bill to activate your device on the Bell network,” reads the fine print on Bell’s website. On the Virgin Mobile website, the fine print reads, “One-time connection service fee ($50) applies with new activations.”
You can see the change on Bell’s website below:
Here’s what it look liked back in May:
As of writing, Rogers and Telus, along with their flanker brands, are still charging $45 for their device connection fees. Given how the wireless industry in Canada seems to follow each other closely, we wouldn’t be surprised if Rogers/Fido and Telus/Koodo follow in Bell/Virgin’s footsteps.
