Leaker Claims Apple Will Maintain LiDAR Exclusivity to iPhone 13 Pro Models

Apple may continue to maintain its LiDAR exclusivity within its iPhones strictly to its Pro models. This year, the iPhone 13 is set to debut in the fall and a leaker has claimed that only the Pro and Pro Max models will have LiDAR scanner integration.

Earlier this year, reports began coming in that stating that Apple was developing the entire iPhone 13 lineup with LiDAR technology in mind. Now, as reported by 9to5Mac, leaker DylanDKT has said that may not be the case. Although the leaker doesn’t expand on why Apple seemed to have pivoted from its initial plan, DylanDKT said, “one reason or another, it won’t be happening this year.”

Apple has been slowly integrating LiDAR technology into more of its products. It was first introduced into the 2020 iPad Pro and then later into the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple has been leveraging the technology to enhance its AR features, apps, and improve Portrait photos in Night mode.

DylanDKT isn’t the most well-known name as far as leakers go. However, the user has been correct in the past. More recently, the leaker stated that new models of the MacBook Pro will indeed be releasing in October or November of this year.
