Clubhouse no Longer Requires Invitation to Join and Participate

Clubhouse is officially opening its doors to all users. The audio-only app will no longer require an invitation nor will users be put on an extensive waitlist before being able to join.

What was once an exclusive, well clubhouse, is now lowering its barrier to entry for new users. Clubhouse co-founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth published a new blog post announcing that the app will no longer require an invitation in order to join. Reminiscing that 12 months ago, the Clubhouse app was only in beta with a team of eight people. Now, the team has expanded to 58 and the active users grew to 10 million since mid-May when the app launched on Android.

“We’re thrilled to share that Clubhouse is now out of beta, open to everyone, and ready to begin its next chapter,” Davison and Seth wrote. “This means we have removed our waitlist system so that anyone can join.”

Along with the announcement that Clubhouse is open to all users, the co-founders announced that the app now has a new logo. Additionally, the app icon on iOS and Android has been changed to feature Justin “Meezy” Williams.

The update which is required to be installed before the gates are lowered is now available on both iOS and Android. Davison and Seth also state that the company will be shipping “big new updates for you every 1-2 weeks”.

News of this comes at a time when competition is nipping at the heels of Clubhouse. As the app maintained its exclusivity since its launch, Twitter, for instance, launched Twitter Spaces. This direct competitor is also open to everybody. Facebook is also developing its own services catering to audio-only features. Although Facebook Live Audio Rooms is only available in the US, it’s just another reason Clubhouse may have felt compelled to drop its exclusivity.
