Spotify AirPlay 2 Support for iOS Put on Hold Due to Compatibility Issues
Spotify has revealed in an online forum that it has put a pause on its efforts to bring AirPlay 2 support to the iOS app “for now,” MacRumors is reporting.

According to the music stream giant, it had been working on supporting AirPlay 2 for quite a while but for now, the company has paused the efforts due to “audio driver compatibility issues.” A Spotify representative described AirPlay 2 support as a “bigger project that we won’t be able to complete in the foreseeable future.”
“We’ve discussed this Idea internally and while we are working on supporting AirPlay2 in a proper way, we have decided to close it for now.
The reason for this is that due to audio driver compatibility issues, this seems like a bigger project that we won’t be able to complete in the foreseeable future.”
Launched as an improvement over the original AirPlay wireless audio protocol back in 2018, AirPlay 2 offers multi-room audio, Siri voice control, and improved buffering.
Apple’s developer website states that any app can support AirPlay 2 by implementing the AVFoundation framework APIs. More information can be found at this link.
