High-End Mac Mini Expected Later This Year, to Feature M1X Chip and New Design
Apple is expected to launch a brand new high-end Mac Mini later this year. The new model is said to be running off of the company’s ‘M1X’ chip and will feature an updated design.
In Bloomberg‘s new PowerOn newsletter from Mark Gurman, it’s been reported that Apple’s new Mac Mini will launch in the “next several months”. According to Gurman, the Mac Mini will feature a faster processor in the form of Apple’s M1X chip. Additionally, the new model is expected to feature a design that will include more rear ports.
Last fall, as part of its trio of initial Macs to transition over to Apple Silicon chips, the company updated the older Mac mini design with the M1 processor. The Mac mini is used for more basic tasks like video streaming, but many people use it as a software development machine, as a server or for their video editing needs. Apple knows that, so it kept the Intel model around. Well, expect that to go away in the next several months with a high-end, M1X Mac mini. It will have an updated design and more ports than the current model.
Assuming Gurman’s reporting is correct, Apple may release the new Mac Mini alongside the reported 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, also expected in the next month or so.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Apple’s new M1X Mac Mini. Apple leaker Jon Prosser dropped renders of what the model could look like earlier this year. The renders depicted a Mac Mini with a plexiglass top and showed the device running off a new power cable. Additionally, the renders showed the rear as having four USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, ethernet, and HDMI.
We’ll eagerly wait and see when and if Apple officially announces a high-end Mac Mini for release later this year.
