Apple Watch Takes 52% Share of Smartwatch Market in Q2 2021
Samsung came in at second with an 11% share, followed by Garmin with 8.3%. The remaining 28.2% was held by Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi, and other smartwatch makers.
Apple shipped a whopping 9.5 million units of its various Apple Watch models during Q2 2021, up 46% Year-over-Year (YoY) from 6.5 million units in Q2 2020. All other smartwatch makers combined shipped 8.6 million units, in comparison.
Apple’s market share didn’t change much between Q2 2020 and Q2 2021, only dropping 0.3%.
The global smartwatch market overall grew 47%, from 12.3 million units shipped in Q2 2020 to 18.1 million units in Q2 2021, with shipment volumes reaching pre-pandemic numbers. With wearables gaining traction and the world slowly recovering from the devastation brought on by COVID-19, things are looking up for the smartwatch market.
Apple has no intentions of handing over its piece of the smartwatch pie anytime soon, with the new Apple Watch Series 7 being pegged for a September launch.
