Bell MTS announced on Tuesday its all-fibre broadband network is expanding in Manitoba’s Pembina Valley.
According to Bell MTS, homes and businesses in Altona, Plum Coulee, Emerson and Morris will get fibre broadband, with direct connections reaching nearly 4,500 locations beginning this fall.
“Building an economy for the future requires continued investment in world-class digital infrastructure in communities large and small across this province,” said Ryan Klassen, Vice Chair of Bell MTS and Western Canada, in an issued statement.
“Bell MTS is proud to bring pure fibre Internet service to more towns and rural municipalities in the Pembina Valley, delivering fast, reliable broadband access to enhance connectivity and boost economic growth as Manitoba moves forward,” added Klassen.
Bell says the broadband expansion will bring internet download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps, plus access to other services including Fibe TV. Earlier this year, Bell announced it would spend an extra $1.7 billion in investments over two years to fast-track broadband fibre, 5G and rural networks.
Bell MTS also provided an update on its fibre rollout in Morden, noting it is nearly complete.
Rural Canadians waiting for fibre expansion or faster internet speeds have also signed up for Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet, now available in Canada and beyond.
