Discovery+ Streaming Service Coming Oct. 19 to Canada, Pricing from $4.99 with ‘Limited Ads’

Discovery is set to launch its discovery+ streaming service in Canada on October 19, 2021.

The service will bring over 200 exclusive, original series from Discovery’s library, with access to 60,000 episodes of current and classic shows from its networks such as HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, OWN, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Magnolia Network and BBC natural history content.

We know it will resonate with our loyal audience in Canada, as we continue to roll the service out to a number of key markets around the world throughout the rest of 2021,” added Perrette.

You’ll be able to stream discovery+ on the following devices at launch, which includes Apple TV 4K and more:

• Amazon Fire TV streaming devices and Fire TV Smart TVs
• iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV HD & Apple TV 4K
• Google devices and platforms including Android phones and tablets, Google TV and other Android TV OS devices, and Google Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices
• Microsoft Store on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S devices
• The Roku platform
• Samsung Smart TVs (2017 and newer)

Discovery+ pricing will start at $4.99 CAD per month with “limited ads” (!), while an ad-free version will be $6.99 CAD per month.

It seems weird that subscribers will be paying for the service, yet still subjected to “limited ads” for the entry tier. It reminds us of STACKTV on Amazon Prime Video, which also forces you to watch in-house ads with a subscription.

Subscribers will be able to create up to 5 user profiles and 4 streams will be allowed at the same time, which Discovery touts as “the most offered in the streaming video category”.

Discovery+ first launched back in the United States in January 2021, but its Canadian debut is just around the corner. Back in August, Discovery said its streaming service hit 18 million subscribers in the U.S.
