Facebook Renames to Meta
Facebook has changed its corporate name to Meta, to represent its plethora of apps that serve over 3.5 billion people worldwide.
“It is time for us to adopt a new company brand” to accompany all of its services, said CEO Mark Zuckerberg at its AR/VR streaming event today. The word meta has Greek origins and means ‘beyond’, signalling what Facebook plans with its services.
“The future is going to be beyond anything we can imagine,” concluded Zuckerberg.
“We chose “Meta” because it can mean “beyond,” and captures our commitment to building social technologies that take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today,” said Facebook…err, Meta, in a statement to iPhone in Canada.

As for the symbol itself?
The Meta symbol was designed to dynamically live in the metaverse — where you can move through it and around it. It can take on infinite textures, colors and movement, capturing the creativity and imagination of a 3D world. It was also important that the symbol take on a blue gradient and pull in the color of our core products, connecting our future to our company’s origins.
On December 1, Facebook will begin trading under the stock ticker MVRS.
