Apple Cuts iPad Production in Order to Meet iPhone 13 Demand

Since it reveal, Apple’s iPhone 13 has been met with high demand. So much so, that the company has been struggling to keep up with orders thanks to chips and component shortages. Therefore, Apple has cut production on the iPad in order to keep up with orders, especially for the iPhone 13 Pro.

According to Nikkei AsiaApple has restructured its production goals in order to begin meeting the demand for its new flagship smartphones. Multiple sources have reportedly said that the production of the iPad “was down 50% from Apple’s original plans for the past two months.” Parts that were also intended for older generation iPhones were also being utilized on the iPhone 13.

With the iPad and iPhone sharing similar components, Apple can shift supplies around when needed in specific circumstances such as these. Both devices include the same core and peripheral chips, a component that has become increasingly harder to maintain a supply of.

As of now, the effects of Apple’s productions scheme haven’t made a noticeable impact on the supply of the iPhone 13. Those wishing to purchase one online will still be met with slight delivery delays. This is even more applicable to the iPhone 13 Pro, which indicates that the model is in higher demand than the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
With the holidays just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how Apple adjusts production further in order to meet Black Friday and Boxing Day demands.
