On Sunday, American cartoonist and writer Liza Donnelly, best known for her work in The New Yorker, ran the 50th annual New York City Marathon with around 33,000 other participants.
However, Donnelly ran the marathon while doing something pretty unique — drawing on her iPad mini. The iPad was quick to gain favour with illustrators and designers the world over, and this year’s iPad mini 6 builds upon that foundation significantly.
Throughout the marathon (and after, using pictures she took during), Donnelly sketched what she saw and what she felt in her personal drawing style.
The cartoonist basically documented her entire experience running the 50th Anniversary NYC Marathon in a series of cartoons. And what’s more, Donnelly is now raffling off signed prints of her drawings from the marathon to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for cancer research. Donnelly’s efforts caught the attention of Greg Joswiak (@gregjoz), Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, who congratulated the cartoonist on her feat over on Twitter, noting how impressive it was to sketch on an iPad while running a marathon.

Liza Donnelly’s drawings have raised over $12,600 USD for cancer research so far.
