Warner Bros. in a tweet published on Friday confirmed that The Matrix Resurrections will be available to purchase or rent on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services in Canada starting Friday, January 14.

Warner Bros. revealed in a follow-up tweet that the film will cost $29.99 to permanently buy in Canada or $24.99 for a premium rental. The Matrix Resurrections will be available on “participating digital platforms,” said the entertainment giant.

While Warner Bros. did not confirm which PVOD services would host the movie, Apple’s iTunes and Google Play are a good bet.

The Matrix Resurrections is the fourth installment in the franchise, starring the familiar duo of Canada’s own Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The official synopsis for the film reads:

To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, Mr. Anderson, aka Neo, will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. If he’s learned anything, it’s that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of — or into — the Matrix. Neo already knows what he has to do, but what he doesn’t yet know is that the Matrix is stronger, more secure and far more dangerous than ever before.

The Matrix Resurrections was released in cinemas just over two weeks ago on December 22. A digital release just 20-something days after the theatrical launch of a movie isn’t a good sign, but the move could be a result of both cinema closures due to surging COVID-19 cases and the movie’s underwhelming performance at the box office.

The film, which reportedly cost $190 million USD to make, has only made $106 million USD globally so far.

John Wick: Chapter 4, another Keanu Reeves film, has also been delayed to March 24, 2023, from its already-delayed May 27, 2022, release date.
