BOE Reported to Manufacture OLED Displays for iPhone 15 Pro in 2023

China-based manufacturer BOE is reported to be supplying OLED displays for Apple’s Pro 2023 iPhone models, tentatively dubbed the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Reports have begun surfacing that BOE has been recruited to begin supplying additional OLED displays for Apple. A report from The Elec that BOE achieved the order by successfully being able to apply low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology to its OLED panels. LTPO enables a 120Hz variable refresh rate on the screen.

Until now, BOE has only obtained the supply order for the standard model of the iPhone. It currently supplies 6.1-inch OLED panels to the standard iPhone 13. Additionally, the manufacturer will be supplying the same panels for the entry-level iPhone 14, expected later this fall.

In addition to this news, The Elec‘s report claims that Samsung Display and LG Display will continue to supply the display panels for the iPhone 14’s Pro level models. Samsung has also supplied the displays for Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max last year.

It’s clear that with a larger demand for OLED displays on smartphones, Apple must obtain stable orders from its suppliers. BOE has been unsuccessful in moving into a position where it may expand its supply. Though, it appears that may all change in 2023. In 2021, BOE had supplied 15 million to 16 million units of OLED panels. Apple is expected to ship an estimated 200 million units of OLED iPhones this year.
