Sony Reveals First Official Look at PlayStation VR2

Sony has shared the first look at its upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset. The next-gen VR headset from Sony Interactive Entertainment has been widely anticipated and the company has shared additional details regarding the hardware.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony showed off the cutting edge design of PlayStation VR2. Taking obvious cues from PlayStation 5, the headset maintains an overall white aesthetic with black notes as well. Sony claims that the circular designs of the PS VR2 headset and PS VR2 Sense controllers represent the “360-degree view that players feel when they enter the virtual reality world.”

Sony is said to have focused on ergonimics and comfort this time around. The next-gen VR headset has an adjustable headband players can tweak depending on their preferences. The headset’s scope can also be adjusted so the displays can be closer or further from the player’s face. The stereo headphone jack will remain in the same spot.

On top of comfort, Sony has brought new design elements to the table. PS VR2 features a new lens adjustment dial. This ensures players have the option to match the lens distance between their eyes to the optimal viewpoint. The headset is also said to be slimmer and lightweight when compared to the original PSVR headset. A built-in motor will now provide haptics and headset feedback while playing. Also, the design includes new vents to avoid lens fog.

As with the DualSense controller, the PlayStation VR2 headset will feature thousands of small PlayStation symbols on the front and back of the headset.

Previously, Sony revealed that PlayStation VR2 will offer a true 4K HDR experience with 110-degree FOV. The headset also sports an OLED display with 2000 x 2040 per eye with up to 120Hz.

Sony has not provided release details or pricing regarding its upcoming headset. Instead, the company stated that it will be “sharing more details” in the future.
