Netflix’s Apple TV App Now Uses Redesigned tvOS 15 Video Player

Netflix has begun to roll out its update for tvOS 15. On Apple TV, Netflix is being updated to the redesigned video player with some users already having access.

As noted on Twitter and Reddit, seen by 9to5Mac, the latest tvOS 15 update for Netflix is starting to roll out to more users. Once available, a tv show and film title appear on the lower-left corner of the screen when video playback options are displayed. Episode titles are also displayed albeit in smaller text on-screen.

Version 2.1.23 of the Netflix app also updated the information button. This button displays useful information about the content including rating, run time, subtitles options, and more.

With the new and updated additions, Netflix no longer supports the swipe-down functionality on Apple TV. Previously, Netflix users could swipe to pull up sound and audio settings as the aforementioned information is now relegated to the button.

Netflix is one of the few streaming services to offer a native video player. Others such as Crave and Amazon Prime Video continue to utilize their own UI and settings options.

Thanks to the progressive rollout, it shouldn’t be long before all Netflix subscribers on Apple TV have access to the updated video player.

On my AppleTV, Crave definitely uses the default tvOS 15 video player.
