Apple to Restore Tempo API for Apple Music Compatible Apps in iOS 15.5

As pointed out in a report by French website iGeneration, Apple will re-enable the tempo API (application programming interface) for Apple Music compatible apps in iOS 15.5.

Apple decided to remove an API used by third-party Apple Music players that let users change the playback speed of songs in iOS 15.4, which upset many developers and users of third-party Apple Music clients. But now, the company is bringing it back in iOS 15.5.

In an update posted on Apple’s developer forums earlier this week, Apple software engineer Joe Kun confirmed the change:

“We have re-evaluated our previous decision to disable changing the playback rate for subscription content from Apple Music in third-party applications, and we came to the conclusion that we could safely enable that functionality again, just like before the release of iOS 15.4. As such, this issue is fixed in iOS 15.5 beta 4.”
