Telus and its subsidiary Koodo are taking full advantage of the Rogers outage that left millions of Canadians offline for up to 24 hours and counting.

The front page of the company’s website is advertising a $100 online promo that seemingly targets Rogers customers to switch over.

“Join TELUS and stay connected on an award-winning network that won’t leave you hanging. Plus, get a $50 bill credit and save the $50 connection fee by switching online,” says the company.

“Koodo runs on Canada’s award-winning, largest 4G LTE network. Switch online today and save up to $100. Now is a good time,” details the Koodo website, noting the promo ends on July 11.

During the Rogers outage yesterday, Telus also started emailing customers to switch over.

“Switch to an award-winning network you can rely on,” said the Telus email subject line. “Our mobile network won’t leave you hanging,” said Telus, according to an email received by Daily Hive reporter Kenneth Chan. “Switch to our award-winning network with this special offer,” explained the email.

On Saturday morning, Rogers announced services had been restored for the “vast majority” of its customers, but full 100% uptime would not be available just yet. The company did not explain the cause of the outage that affected debit payments, e-Transfers, and more.

Critics and consumer groups have called for a public inquiry into the Rogers outage, which saw multiple redundancies fail to kick in, according to a company senior vice president in a CBC News interview.

Telus, this makes you look almost as bad as Rogers.

You can have almost all of Rogers customers if you want by doing something simple. Why not offer lower monthly plans for all customers, including your current ones that aren’t promotional expiring ones? It’s not like you won’t be making money by lowering all your plans by 2/3’s.

I have Fido as my provider for phone and it was affected by the outage. I did check Telus this morning and the choice of plans is very limited. I know people stream everything with their phones, but not offering anything less than 25GB per month for $85 seems to be a bit limited.

Telus needs to remember they live in a glass house. I’m with Telus and the only way the past few weeks for me to get reliable cel call service has been with wifi calling. Otherwise, poor and dropped audio, inconsistent and sometimes terrible data speed on 5g or LTE. The likely cause is a system update. Obviously Rogers had a big widespread problem, but compared to everything else these days, whatever.

I really don’t like this kind of publicity. This can happen on any company. I’m with Rogers since 2017 and other than the outage, it was always working flawlessly. I can’t say the same with my 10 years long with Telus before that with random « no services », vuggt LTE where I live (Montreal) and voLTE not worked at that time. In other words I had to set my phone on 3G to not have any issues.

We need more options. Plain and simple.

My phone that is with koodo did leave me hanging yesterday, spotty to essentially unusable internet connection on my smart phone. I called to complain and they said they had tons of customers all day long with the same problem despite the fact it should have been isolated to just Rogers.

Telus plans suck anyways. I’ll stick with Rogers until Bell or Telus enhance their offers

I didn’t know they were offering 100% uptime. Wow! Anyone here have a copy of their SLA? This would certainly be a first for the entire planet. lol /s

All 3 are bad choices. That’s the problem. And I’m not just talking about Canadian elections – the telecoms suck too 😉
